This senior executive of a large bank is a well-qualified engineer and a management graduate from a topmost institution.

Last week, I was having session with him, and I found him feeling a bit down. I asked what the issue?

He said that he was not getting vibes of him being a good leader.

I asked further questions like:

  • What is the meaning of a good leader?
  • What will make a good leader?

We drilled down on the subject and concluded if you want to be a leader, or if you think that already are a leader and want more opportunities to shine, please remember – principle.

Leadership is not dependent on external factors, but on internal elements.

  • It doesn’t require the right environment; it requires constant learning and development.
  • If you want to lead and lead well, it’s up to you to read and be coached and to grow.
  • It’s not just about reading great books or attending inspiring seminars. It’s about what you take away from these experiences and apply to your situation.

Nobody else will water it.

Nobody else will nurture it.

Your capacity to lead effectively is entirely up to you.

So, friends what are you going to do about it?
